The 2012 election season is in full swing. On March 25th, the Steel City Stonewall Democrats endorsed its slate of candidates for the April 24th primary elections. But our work will continue well beyond the end of April.
If the Republican Presidential primary is any indication of things to come, we know one thing: the Republican party is moving farther and farther to the right. If Rick Santorum is considered a viable candidate for their party’s presidential nomination, that is a party that stands against the equality we have fought for and made tremendous progress towards. 2012 can not and will not be known as the year that we took two steps backwards. 2012 will be known as the year where we fought and made more progress towards equality than ever imagined.
In the coming months, we will celebrate Pride, reflect on the 43rd anniversary of the Stonewall riots, enjoy desserts with Democrats, and reelect Barack Obama President of the United States on November 6th.
I ask that you stand with us for equality and that together we will make sure 2012 is a year to be proud of!
